As a pharmacist I can think of no reason why your mother’s cipro prescription wasn’t ready other than the system was trying to put it off as long as possible (a remote fill by robotics is now the most cost effective method of all large corporate pharmacies). . If you need something ASAP the best thing to do is go directly to the pharmacy and stand there in their faces until they fill and hand you the prescription. The #1 priority is always the person standing in front of your face every time. Unless the drug is on back order it would have been quickly filled and you out the door. If they try to tell you that it’s “coming in the order in the morning“ ask them to verify that they have none of the medication on hand to give you now because you need it immediately. Ask to speak to the pharmacist as the technicians often have no clue why you might need a particular drug immediately rather than sometime next week. (Don’t get me wrong there are some wonderful, smart and very effective technicians out there but they are only about 50% of the ones you get to deal with—the rest are new or just lack the critical thinking skills required to make the kinds of decisions that matter-when you get one of these insist on talking to the pharmacist).
Myself I don’t make people wait (even when the system automatically puts an order in for days later) but I do have the luxury of working overnight by myself so I decide who gets what and how fast. And I’m efficient, competent and acutely aware that people needing prescriptions in the middle of the night are generally not there because it’s convenient.
When the prescription was finally filled on Monday, it was only partial. Apparently, they didn’t have any cipro in stock and had to wait for it to be supplied, and even that wasn’t enough to fill the whole prescription.
In addition, there is a pharmacist shortage in the area, and my mom thinks there’s only one pharmacist working at that Walgreens.
Ugh! Poor pharmacist. I wonder how many retired or died suddenly over the whole Covid debacle. We were pressured very strongly to get them but I was able to get an exemption because of (I believe) shortage issues. But many pharmacists are true believers in vaccines because they give them out left and right and they don’t think critically about why all the sudden it’s OUR job to give them. Cipro shortage wasn’t on my bingo card this year unless the doctor wrote for something besides 250-500mg tablets there shouldn’t have been an issue.
Please don’t discount the healing effects of proper diet. Extremely low carb diet, lots of protein and fat will eliminate most inflammation and prime the body for self healing. Prayers for your mother and hugs to you.
Thank you, L.L., and both my mom and I place great emphasis on the importance of healthy diet, nutrition, and supplements. I have been practicing a low-carb diet for over a decade and was able to reduce my hs-CRP inflammation levels from very high to very low by switching from a vegetarian diet to Paleo and later keto combined with intermittent fasting. I also got my thyroid antibodies from Hashimoto’s under control that way as well.
Sunlight and wormth would do your Mom and you a lot of good. Enjoyed your wonderful recap. It’s strange as I see myself as being stoic and always thought it wasn’t a great trait. You changed my mind!
I trust Dr. Yeadon and Dr. Kory anyday of the week over someone who may be an honest doctor, but one who is regularly fed lies by the NIH and CDC not to mention Big Pharma.
Your strength and resilience is admirable. My wife and I had a discussion just the other night about "why bad things happen to good people", and settled on immediacy and eternalness. It's not a great answer, but it helps a bit.
IMO, Stoicism is complementary to Taoism. Preparation allows and individual to "smoothly" go with the flow. When "things" happen, we can spin ourselves in circles trying to figure out how, why, and meaning. Preparation helps us avoid that strain.
Yes blessed we are and the book Meditations cropped up in my inbox yesterday and it’s been added to my wish list, now it’s upped its priority.
And I shall endeavour to use your charming and helpful “stoic gods” in life’s curveball situations small and big. Wishes for a healthy New Year for you and your mum, I have no doubt it will as you are surrounded by amazing friends. Hugs, Eva
Margaret, thank you for sharing all of this. May God direct your path and provide you wisdom for your mother as you graciously and compassionately care for her. I am convinced the earthly and eternal peace, the grace and understanding that you long for, is only going to be found in the gift of God given to us and that we remember in this season, the Messiah Jesus. God bless you and your family.
I am so glad you've got Yeadon and Kory in your corner, if anyone can solve it they can. My prayers go out to you Mrs. Alice, I think I've made three prayers just this morning. And many many thanks for the call-outs. Merry Christmas to you, your mom, and everyone you hold dear.
I can only hope and pray that you & your mom will have a gentler, healthier New Year.
An uneventful 2025 I'm sure would be a welcome change, and an opportunity for recovery of your immune system and time to deal with a " soul crying out to be fed ".
A couple of thoughts that you might find useful for your mom. (if you haven't already gone or considered this route) I know when I suffered with a chronic cough for the longest time, I eventually discovered that the cough, chest pain, and gagging coughed up phlegm, all cleared up once I began using an over-the-counter nasal spray which stopped "the post nasal drip". Who knew. (Even the meds my doctor had prescribed had done nothing for me) .
A secondary item that helped keep my lungs clear occurred when when my doctor prescribed a CPAP machine for a diagnosis of Sleep Apnea. This also helped. (my long suffering wife was happier too) Yikes .... just what you needed ... more advice.
For the "soul crying out to be fed", I have always leaned on God's Word for soul food. You might try a dose of Psalm 139 for a starter.
'Nuff said. Thoughts & prayers will continue. Have a wonderful Christmas & a Peaceful New Year !
Thank you so much for your touching words and prayers as well as your recommendations, Bob.
I am running on fumes so will be briefer than I'd like but just wanted to clarify that the "soul crying out to be fed" quote is from Abi Roberts, not me :-) I realize it's a little confusing because I embedded her Substack Note and then also transcribed the text below.
A stoic might imagine what would be like having to lose your mom, but flowing with the Tao would be meeting Ross right before needing him to help save her life. Or being involved with covid dissonance where Yeadon and Corry can offer advice. Or the myriads of ways where you have directed your destiny to be in the right place and the right time to handle adversity. Sending you and your mom extra big hugs this Christmas, dear. The North Star is shining bright above you and you know who twinkles from there watching you go on strong caring for yourself, your guys’ kitties, and the people you love.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. Please before using Cipro try nebulising hydrogen peroxide in saline - 3% concentration in saline. Hydrogen peroxide is used by the body's own cells to kill infection. Hydrogen peroxide appears to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its biofilms. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC91906/.
I am not sure of the availlable hydrogen peroxide concentrations in the UK but if, for example you bought a 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide solution, then you would mix say 10ml of this with 107ml of saline, which will give 3% HP concentration, and this can be nebulised several times per day. The idea is that you use the highest concentration possible to get the best effect and 3% is safe yet on the higher side. However, hydrogen peroxide at 3% may be irritating for some people, especially older people. If so, you can reduce the concentration. Mix say 10ml (35% HP) with 130ml saline for 2.5%, or mix 10ml (35% HP) with 165ml saline for 2%, or mix 10ml (35% HP) with 340ml saline for 1%. Keep the mix in a jar and use it to fill the nebuliser. You can also use a diffuser at night with a low HP concentration going all night in the bedroom.
As another commenter wrote, also use colloidal silver, not nebulising, but instead, orally for the gut, where Pseudomonas aeruginosa is very likely also present, and possibly has been seeding the lung infection. So, you need to work on the gut also. Saccharomyces boulardii has been shown to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the gut.
I am not a doctor so none of this is not medical advice thank goodness.

Oh MAA 😢
Sending you prayers of comfort and healing for you and your mom this holiday season.

Research nebulizing colloidal silver, maybe with some Lugol’s iodine or DMSO, and how it might help her.
Totally agree my daughter has Lupas and has gone off all meds and gone Keto np carbs plenty greens fruit
Contact Barbara O'Neil who is great for natural healing

Wishing your mum a speedy recovery.
I add one drop of 2% Lugols iodine to the 1 drop of 3% pharmaceutical grade hydrogen peroxide into the saline solution.
I have used food grade H2O2 in a nebulizer as well.
PLEASE, PLEASE get your Mom some colloidal silver. Have her drink it all day long in everything.
Sending you LOVE and LIGHT!
