Thank you, Mello.B33, and I do realize the 30% religiously hypnotized will likely respond as you predict, but a few of the 40% “swing thinkers” I’m aiming at may begin to open their minds a crack.

I agree that everyone needs to be constantly alert to their vulnerability to their cognitive biases, no matter how awake we believe ourselves to be. We have to continually work against our built-in neurological mechanisms that predispose us to confirmation bias, ingroup/outgroup biases, repetition, fear, and the usual gamut of logical fallacies.

In my second essay (https://margaretannaalice.substack.com/p/covid-is-over-if-you-want-it), I touched on the self-inflicted chains you describe, which Étienne de la Boétie nails brilliantly in “The Politics of Obedience.”

Your piece sounds intriguing, and I look forward to reading it.
