I just wrote an email to a music festival who asked me to house one of their composers:

The last time the housing coordinator asked, I had inquired about the festival policy on vaccination. They confirmed that even if I was housing musicians, I couldn’t attend performances or practices without proof of vaccination. When they said, ‘maybe another time,’ I asked them to take me off the list.
Now that the dust has settled, I know many people who lost their jobs, had to leave school without their diplomas, some left the country, marriages ended, parents (including mine) died alone. I know of one suicide and several small businesses that went into debt and still ended up closing down.
I got off easy. I didn’t lose a job or housing. I just got excluded from places and events.
But going back to those places and events rankles—that effort at coercion of the few who weren’t forced by their circumstances. I don’t know if you remember some of the very ugly op-eds like Stephen Kessler’s Eulogy for the Unvaxxed. I have a YT video on it if you’d like to remember how mean things got.
And now, it seems like everyone just wants to forget. There was no explanation given that the festival was forced to make that choice. And maybe, even after everything, the festival would make it again.
My daughter is a bereavement counselor at Sutter, so she’s had to be fully vaxxed. When I saw her yesterday, she said that it was impossible to deny what she’s seeing—young people dying of cancers in numbers that had never happened before. She sees it with a co-worker’s wife who’s an acupuncturist, her own husband’s mother who died two weeks after their wedding, and her ridiculously healthy uncle, whose memorial is next month.
Some have paid a very heavy price for their positions, on one side or the other. It doesn’t feel right to just sweep under the rug the position the festival has taken and make nice.
That they betrayed their own people in exchange for exactly zero benefit?
Of course they want to forget. But the wound in their soul will always be there, until the end.
Those poor people are now living with the existential need to quiet the screams of that wound.
In the meantime, the perpetrators keep stealing and escaping. And the formerly proud believers in quacksines keep rolling their eyes at my "extreme" opinions. But that's still more than I'm willing to comply with, and it shows that they don't think they did anything wrong. I spoke directly with a VAERS rep about a year ago, and asked, “isn’t it true that every adverse “health” event following c19 vax MUST be reported to VAERS without any timeframe cutoff?” Yes was the answer. My local hospital told me a couple years ago they had filed zero VAERS reports.

It's the Cabrillo Music Festival in Santa Cruz but 37 is right that I don't know an event that didn't require pov. I haven't gone back to Shakespeare SC or the local live theaters or museums. Heck, I even got turned away from a Burning Man event at a music venue! I haven't gone there since even though a friend's band plays there, and I've told her why.
What makes this particularly satisfying though is how much it hurts them more than me. As you can imagine, free housing in a detached unit within walking distance of the Civic auditorium is gold in the city with the highest housing expense vs. income in the country.
But I think we need to recognize what we're telling them. They themselves now have a substance in their bodies causing young people to die from cancers. Two people I once talked to about that, when they were perfectly healthy, are now dead. Whether or not rage is justified, I think that strategically people are more likely to hear this when delivered with compassion for both them and ourselves. Compassion and consequences.

Yeah Santa Cruz was terrible in the way the useful idiots took it upon themselves to enforce the “mandates.” I had an experience at companion bake shop because I refused to strap on a mask to order from the curb, from outside of their ridiculous plexiglass partition. That's funny, Companion is another one I still avoid. I tried to buy something from them at the Farmer's Market with a scarf over my nose and mouth. They weren't having it and said I needed a mask. Their whole staff was smugly self righteous about the masks and vax. They were the biggest complainers about the raw milk dairy that got kicked out.

Kicked out of too many old family and recreational mask, test, n' jab required activities to count. Only bitter about that for a few weeks until I realized I can't let them hurt me.
Virtually all the mask wearers now have real fear in their eyes. Not one deeply angry glare from any of them in almost a year. I just boycott some businesses who were vicious in the past or took obscene profits in lockdowns like Amazon when bookshops were ordered closed. My latest is boycotting any places with outdoor "c---- shots here" signage.
I give anyone masked a big carefree smile and wish them a good day knowing the odds are they will die way too young in their fear-porn addict, face diaper, max-jabbed condition. Many “prioritized business over everything else”….and they still went under and out of business! Of course that would exclude all hospitals and 99% of physicians offices, etc. Unlike the likes of Walmart, et al, who raked in mega bucks while many of the same independent businesses in our area folded, never to return! For example, we had 3 locally owned hair saloons in the area, all 3 lost their businesses. 2 were bought by national chains (those cheap haircut places) and the other is still shuttered. My area is not unique.
The owner of my hair salon is a prime example, Judy. Her landlord gave her one month of free rent and then she paid for every other month she couldn't be open, or she would have lost all the money she'd put into remodeling the space. Stylists left in droves. She had to install barriers and all kinds of 'protections' under threat of being blacklisted and shut down.
One long-term client in recovery from cancer, she referred to someone else in her studio. When that person found out the client wasn't vaccinated, she recoiled and refused to touch her. It was extremely traumatic for the client. The owner told me that story but didn't take a side or reprimand the stylist. As a result, I stopped going for awhile, even though I've known her for 40 yrs.
When things opened up again, her landlord ended the lease. Said he wanted to do some renovations. She lost the business she'd hoped to someday pass onto her daughter and was left with those gov't loans they passed out like candy to businesses--not grants.
She's now renting space for herself and not running a studio, and actually says it's such a relief. I've started going back to her. I have nothing but compassion for those who were fooled and manipulated. The consequences of all this are enough.

I don't know any of the people who did the manipulating personally, so my compassion or rage would be lost on them. The grief counseling daughter has a group of mentors she calls the 'bereavement babes.' One of them says that anger is when you wish the other person would die and you swallow the poison. Understanding who is doing the manipulation and how it's been done--across millennia--is important to me but I protect my emotions. We're going to need all the compassion we can get.

Theatres in Chicago are shuttering their doors for good en masse and the rest are complaining how audiences aren’t coming back. They keep circulating articles trying to explain why theatre is dying, and I’m like, “it was the low key fascism, stupid,” but I’ve already been cancelled so they pay me no never mind. 🤷♀️ it’s a case of schadenfreude but for people who spent their careers examining the human experience, they have turned out to be quite daft.

One hasn't opened since and the other is showing things like Barbie. I think that even the buyout was planned and this is another target to take out free expression, maybe especially since Parasite won all the awards.
In my rebel raw milk group, that distributed in my driveway after they were ousted from the market, one guy was an actor particularly reknowned for King Lear. His theater group, that had been his community for decades, imposed the vax tax. He debated handing out flyers to people waiting in line for the performance in which he'd been replaced. I advised him to protect his heart. He ended up stapling some to poles prior to the performance but heard that they'd been taken down.

It's the Cabrillo Music Festival in Santa Cruz but 37 is right that I don't know an event that didn't require pov. I haven't gone back to Shakespeare SC or the local live theaters or museums. Heck, I even got turned away from a Burning Man event at a music venue! I haven't gone there since even though a friend's band plays there, and I've told her why.
What makes this particularly satisfying though is how much it hurts them more than me. As you can imagine, free housing in a detached unit within walking distance of the Civic auditorium is gold in the city with the highest housing expense vs. income in the country.
But I think we need to recognize what we're telling them. They themselves now have a substance in their bodies causing young people to die from cancers. Two people I once talked to about that, when they were perfectly healthy, are now dead. Whether or not rage is justified, I think that strategically people are more likely to hear this when delivered with compassion for both them and ourselves. Compassion and consequences.

Yeah Santa Cruz was terrible in the way the useful idiots took it upon themselves to enforce the “mandates.” I had an experience at companion bake shop because I refused to strap on a mask to order from the curb, from outside of their ridiculous plexiglass partition. Then their supervisor, Nathan if I remember correctly, took a picture of my license plate and a closeup of my face! Then I called the cops who said that companion had already called to report me :)

That's funny, Companion is another one I still avoid. I tried to buy something from them at the Farmer's Market with a scarf over my nose and mouth. They weren't having it and said I needed a mask. Their whole staff was smugly self righteous about the masks and vax. They were the biggest complainers about the raw milk dairy that got kicked out.
I heard that the owner is still in debt from that time. I can't muster any sympathy. It was one thing to do what you had to, to stay open. But they were moralistic prigs.
Remembering that humiliation, not just Companion but every time someone glared for not wearing a mask on a hike in the woods, or I'd try to comply in a way that I could still breathe, it makes me feel sick. Traveling seven hours on a plane wearing a mask, and panicking the night before because I didn't know if I could do it. My God, what we've been through.
Peet’s coffee was also equally terrible. I’m still boycotting them even though I like their roast style more than any other roaster. But I’d rather be free and drink lighter roast than support businesses that enforced the fake mandates. Even when I declared an exemption to mask, which was all that was necessary in most counties, at least initially, Peet’s employees tried to tell me they were enforcing the “law”. They had no idea what they were talking about. To me it’s important to remember which businesses took on the role of enforcers. They deserve to be boycotted indefinitely, or maybe until they acknowledge & apologize for how wrong they were. I’m pleased to know companion isn’t getting your business. While people still drive around with “never forget 911” bumper stickers, many of those same people would like to forget the tyrannical “Covid mandates.” I won’t forget.

I refused to get on an airliner as long as they had test or jab rules, and nursed drinks for hours to avoid masks when those were still required. Kicked out of too many old family and recreational mask, test, n' jab required activities to count. Only bitter about that for a few weeks until I realized I can't let them hurt me.
Virtually all the mask wearers now have real fear in their eyes. Not one deeply angry glare from any of them in almost a year. I just boycott some businesses who were vicious in the past or took obscene profits in lockdowns like Amazon when bookshops were ordered closed. My latest is boycotting any places with outdoor "c---- shots here" signage.
I give anyone masked a big carefree smile and wish them a good day knowing the odds are they will die way too young in their fear-porn addict, face diaper, max-jabbed condition. It took me almost a year of refusing to wear a mask to get to that automatic Zen state where I have some sad pity for them as I try to give them good vibes. If they "go mean" or stupid such as wanting a free pass or affirmation for their past or current vicious stupidities I'm locked and loaded with my "performance art" sarcastic but polite comedy routine. Many “prioritized business over everything else”….and they still went under and out of business! Of course that would exclude all hospitals and 99% of physicians offices, etc. Unlike the likes of Walmart, et al, who raked in mega bucks while many of the same independent businesses in our area folded, never to return! For example, we had 3 locally owned hair saloons in the area, all 3 lost their businesses. 2 were bought by national chains (those cheap haircut places) and the other is still shuttered. My area is not unique.
The owner of my hair salon is a prime example, Judy. Her landlord gave her one month of free rent and then she paid for every other month she couldn't be open, or she would have lost all the money she'd put into remodeling the space. Stylists left in droves. She had to install barriers and all kinds of 'protections' under threat of being blacklisted and shut down.
One long-term client in recovery from cancer, she referred to someone else in her studio. When that person found out the client wasn't vaccinated, she recoiled and refused to touch her. It was extremely traumatic for the client. The owner told me that story but didn't take a side or reprimand the stylist. As a result, I stopped going for awhile, even though I've known her for 40 yrs.
When things opened up again, her landlord ended the lease. Said he wanted to do some renovations. She lost the business she'd hoped to someday pass onto her daughter and was left with those gov't loans they passed out like candy to businesses--not grants.
She's now renting space for herself and not running a studio, and actually says it's such a relief. I've started going back to her. I have nothing but compassion for those who were fooled and manipulated. The consequences of all this are enough.

I have compassion for those who were manipulated, just not for those who did the manipulation to gain power!
I don't know any of the people who did the manipulating personally, so my compassion or rage would be lost on them. The grief counseling daughter has a group of mentors she calls the 'bereavement babes.' One of them says that anger is when you wish the other person would die and you swallow the poison. Understanding who is doing the manipulation and how it's been done--across millennia--is important to me but I protect my emotions. We're going to need all the compassion we can get.

Oh, and also the “disadvantaged communities aren’t getting equal access to the ‘life saving vaccines’”messaging. Scarcity worked pretty well I guess.

Theatres in Chicago are shuttering their doors for good en masse and the rest are complaining how audiences aren’t coming back. They keep circulating articles trying to explain why theatre is dying, and I’m like, “it was the low key fascism, stupid,” but I’ve already been cancelled so they pay me no never mind. 🤷♀️ it’s a case of schadenfreude but for people who spent their careers examining the human experience, they have turned out to be quite daft.

There are two indie movie theaters I used to frequent multiple times a week, including a movie discussion group. They were bought by an indie film chain just prior to the shutdown. One hasn't opened since and the other is showing things like Barbie. I think that even the buyout was planned and this is another target to take out free expression, maybe especially since Parasite won all the awards.
In my rebel raw milk group, that distributed in my driveway after they were ousted from the market, one guy was an actor particularly reknowned for King Lear. His theater group, that had been his community for decades, imposed the vax tax. He debated handing out flyers to people waiting in line for the performance in which he'd been replaced. I advised him to protect his heart. He ended up stapling some to poles prior to the performance but heard that they'd been taken down.
